It doesn't matter whether both or only one of the devices is attached the event occurs. They will cause the event log to fill up, however, and may (if the event log grows without limit) fill the system drive. I have to remove all power from laptop for a few minutes and restart to restore any USB function. You can use the links in the Support area to determine whether any additional information might be available elsewhere.
