What I hate most about it is that you only get the error at the very end of a render/encode/export attempt. I changed this back not expecting it to fix any of my problems, BUT IT DID! Maybe your system can't handle the memory demands of the exporting process. I've noticed that Premiere Pro CS3 can become unstable when there are both mono and stereo audio clips in the timeline.
